The history of the emergence of this laser sculpture was as unusual as its very image. This art turned out to be the only one that I created for the entire time of the Covid-19 pandemic. The problems associated with coronavirus restrictions captured me so much that none of the pre-existing ideas were of any interest to me. I met a small number of people who were as busy with current problems as me and they did not create an incentive to create a new masterpiece. But one of my colleagues, performance artist Nastya Belova, came to me in the image that she created for her new performance - she walked with this dangerous garden tool for several weeks through the streets of Moscow, accompanied by the curious audience of the street theater. I named this image Miss Pandemic.

Another of the main characters of our pandemic time is the doctor, who at the first lines meets patients suffering from coronavirus. I personally received tremendous support from him in my own fight against COVID-19.

Those image and melody are recognizable everywhere. But in Russia this melody has a very specific connotation. Near 30 years ago 'Swan Lake' ballet was always aired on Soviet TV in the moments of misfortune or mental collapse of Russian authorities when they had nothing to say to the nation. The soundtrack I use is a real record of the Swan ballet broadcast on August 19, 1991 when a coup happened. The so called GKChP (the State Committee for the State of Emergency) tried to remove Gorbachev and Yeltsin from power. The whole country was waiting for answers but there was nothing on TV accept The Swan Lake. The music you can hear is just the ending of the 1st Act of the ballet. And then you can hear the rising noise of TV equipment and a rustle in the Bolshoi Theater where the ballet was recorded. The whole country was waiting with growing tensely in front of the screens when Siegfried would remove the curse from the bewitched Odette implying own destiny in her. And I think these curses are not broken until now.

Still a dominating Totem of Russia, a Universal Nurse who can feed everyone who needs it. Beside her, everyone feels like a baby and instinctively strives to suck her breast for vital substances. Too often Russia appears like this very Nurse with all its treasures of mineral resources, fresh water and rich forests. Even well educated and prepared for life, young Russian people discover that all their skills and knowledge are conditioned by the only primal ability – the ability to access the virtual breast of the Universal Nurse and suck out of it oil, gas, and other riches that were kept for ages by this main totem of Russia.

По своей сути – это Русский Тотем, образ Всеобщей Кормилицы, способной накормить каждого, кто в этом нуждается. Рядом с ней каждый чувствует себя младенцем и припадает к её бездонной груди, не найдя другого источника веществ, полезных для растущего организма. Таким младенцем чувствует каждый житель России, когда его страна предстаёт перед ним со всеми своими сокровищами недр, водными ресурсами и богатствами лесов. Получив образование и будучи готовым к самостоятельной жизни, молодой россиянин обнаруживает, что все его навыки, знания и умения ограничиваются кругом довольно простых способностей – умением найти доступ к виртуальной груди Всеобщей Кормилицы и высасывать из неё нефть, газ, и другие богатства, которые охраняет этот главный тотем России
